In 2014 I planned a lot out for this year, but unfortunately it didn't go to quite to plan. The biggest highlight was Frank Donachie getting to he Fish O Mania final, what a day that was!! I was overwhelmed to see Frank's support from his friends and family.
Happy new year to you and your family.
The final of Fish O was proper tough on both events, the individual and the international event.
Well done to Jamie Hughes for winning the event.
Me and Mark Malin worked on the Colmic stall and let people have a go with the colmic products. We caught a few tench and loads of small skimmers. Good day, made a few people happy as they caught some fish.
For me, Fish O Mania qualifiers were awful, I got a little despondent and I feel that I may not ever get back into the final again...... A new format has introduce for Fish O mania, will be interesting?! I've applied for 10 tickets and 1 Maver Match Ticket (will apply for more, just need to plan my year out).
To me, friends and family are the most important thing in my life. The beginning of 2015 was awful as Mark Malin had a bad car crash, where he was seriously injured!!! I was so glad to see him back after months of not fishing, and fair play he was back to his winning ways very quickly!!
I took my dad to see a liver specialist in Brimingham, to discover that dad had Liver Cancer and there was nothing they could do. So I lost my best friend, my dad a few months later. Unbelievable how aggressive cancer was.
I wrote an earlier post in my blog about my dad. I am pleased to see the support for Mick Telling memorial match in 2016. Should be a good few events. We plan to have a qualifier on the Kennet and Canal (which he loved) and a twenty peg qualifier on Wick Water 2. Then the final is on Bourton on Water, Colmic will sort the event and we will raise some money for Cancer Research.
Rest in peace dad. Miss you.
On a more positive note, Ivy House lakes was kind to me again in 2015 and I had a good run of results mainly in Silver pools this year, and was also lucky enough to win a few matches overall as well.
104lb skimmers was my best weight at Ivy House Lakes of Silvers.
Rolfs Lake has some beautiful monster carp, I don't fish it as much as I have done of late. One thing for sure, Rolfs Lake is the grave yard of poles, and every festival I fish, I always see poles broken, every year. Me using Colmic poles, 100% reliable. Only broke a number one section, with a angry 14lb common carp and 10 meters of ice!!!! Most pole would be in pieces, fact!
Not sure why, I must get myself Rolfs Lake more in 2016.
Snake lakes, is somewhere I need to develop. Harescombe Fishery, has a great match lake which is 5 mile from my house!
Alders Farm fishery was where the Colmic lads went to on Winter League, we came second overall in the league. Which was a good result considering are knowledge of the venue. I also won the last two matches individually, which was nice, but had the same flyer twice!!! Which helps.
Colmic's new products for 2016 is exciting. I can't believe I've been with Colmic for 4 years, where does the time go?
Frank Donachie in action at Rolfs Lake, doing more product testing and catching some munters on the way.
Ambitions for 2016
Most important thing for me is enjoying my fishing, as at the end of the day it is only game!! Unfortunately you don't always see this on the bank, and there's always one that tries to push boundaries and cause trouble.
I would like to do well in Whiteacres, but always feel I am behind and make the wrong decisions especially when it come to baits. If you not aware, Whiteacres has a 8 unit bait limit (8 pints in old school) and me not knowing the venue, I normally fall flat on my face.
The Fish O Mania final, would love to see myself, Mark or Frank in the final.
I would like to beat my venue record at Manor Farm Leisure, which is 353lb.
Happy new year to you and your family.
