Alvechurch Fishery

Peg 35
188lb
1st place
6 fished

I really do get excited fishing Horseshoe Lake at Alvechurch as when that float goes under it can be anything from a Ide to a 4lb barbel to 8lb angrey carp.  A bit disappointed with attendance today, but still it's a match and I do fish for fun.  So I'm not too concerned if it was a 5 pegger or 80 pegger.

We had half the lake for the match and the other half was for pleasure anglers.  I draw peg 35.   Which was shallow, shocked to find only 2.5 feet maximum.  So therefore these fish were going to fight like fu@k.  So no need for light gear, definitely went down the heavy root.  0.18's and Colmic Kerry floats.

I caught steady all day fishing long with my worm mix.  Caught carp to eight pound and 48lb of silvers, which was skimmers and carp.  Great day to catch 188lb and set a new venue record.... which won't last long.

Colmic Kerry's are brilliant floats.  Visible and stable.
Colmic Airon F66 awesome bit of kit.....

Knew it would be tough match, so decided to fish worms and pellets on the pole line and fish pellet feeder at 22 meters....   Started on pellet feeder, with Marukyu Sweet fishmeal mirco pellets, which resulted in a F1 and had a mare on the pole.  Had 2 carp out, but also lost two and some skimmers (10 for 13lb 10oz) Had 4 carp on the pellet feeder in the last 1 hour 15 mintues and again lost two.  One done me on the rope on peg 22 and the other on the run.  Unreal.  Should of won the match.  Disappointed.

Peg 4 Match

2nd on lake
5th overall.

Another visit to Heronbrook fishery today and drew two pegs away from last time.  The locals say need to draw "ends and bends". So unfortunately no such luck, however still fancied the peg I faced with.   Started on the feeder, and had no such luck.

Been pinging pellets at 14.5 meters and caught a few F1's and a couple of big carp and lost a few, didn't realise how big there are.  It was a tough match.  See the weights below.

Colmic Thor NX900 is awesome bit of kit

Really tough day. Enjoyed getting a few bites but nothing of any size. Frustrating.
Some skimmers and bream were caught to my left (a few pegs down).

Alvechurch

Peg 5
89lb
4th overall
15 fished

Peg 5 on Horseshoe Lake wouldn't be my first choice of pegs, so decide to fish pellet feeder to begin with and ping pellets on the pole line and fish down the edge with maggots.   Simple approach.

The match started and chucked a pellet feeder tight to island with fishery pellets (2mm) and lasso 6mm.  Had 5 carp on this in the first hour and rumour has it, that the lake is fishing hard, so reasonably pleased with the start.  Jon Walker was doing the best on peg 11 with long pole.

My second hour on the pole was slow, disppointing, and decided to put worms in, as Scott was catching well on worms next to me on peg 3 and Phil was struggling on peg 7.  So decided to try and catch big skimmers, which was alright.  Edges was devoid, as the edge was only a top kit long, which proved costly as a lot anglers caught well done their edges in last 40 mintues and where I've struggled to catch any carp, only a few skimmers.

Still had a nice days fishing, enjoyed it, and surprised to make the frame..... Just.

Well done to Jon Walker on winning the match with 147lb and 99lb second.

Well done to Jon Walker for winning and the bonus peg.

Alders Farm Fishery

Peg 22
44lb 11oz
1st place (but only just)
12 fished

Haven't been to Alders Farm for ages, so was looking forward to it.  Early start, set off at 6.30 and three hours later I arrived. Traffic was murder on the A40 and A34.  So there was two pegs left in and both were flyer, peg 22 and peg 5.  Peg 5 has to be one of my favourite pegs on Pines Lake, as I was lucky to drew it quite a few times on the winter league.... a real "Bung Hole". However drew next to Westy on the dam wall, peg 22.

A bit of a rush to kit up.  Started on the pellet feeder and had one second chuck and it was quite.  Loads of fish topping, blowing and moving around..... but didn't feed.  Even after the match I struggled a little.... I caught best on pinging pellets and giving it some to be fair.  Had around 15 ish small carp and a coupl of skimmers to just win the match.  Very tight.  Two 42lb 3oz and I had 44lb 11oz.  One fish in it.  Can't wait to get back..... hopefully the traffic won't be a killer.

Peg 2 Match Lake
183lb

Won the match

92 Anglers fished

Drew peg 2 Match lake, which looked spot on and some of the friendly locals said it will be a "F1 a chuck"..... and to be far it weren't fair off.  Lost my way a little.  Caught shallow and 16 meters down the edge, where I was way too negative.  Should of feed more bait and earlier.

Alvechurch

Peg 13
64lb 2oz
No good
7th overall
15 fished

This is the first time I've fished the Colmic Canal lake at Alvechurch and what a beautiful venue it is.  Drew next to my two mates, Jon Walker and Mark Malin who both gave me a right bettering.  I couldn't catch any carp and the edge only come good in the last 10 mintues and that didn't last....

The venue is full of fish and has sensible depth and ledges, unlike some newly dug lakes.  They have done a good job, worth a visit.
