Ivy House Lakes - Heron Lake

Peg 23 Heron Lake
33lb
No good (8th overall)
24 fished

Ivy House Lakes again, a summers day in February?!  This made it a challenging day for most, fish wouldn't settle for me apart from the first hour (one a chuck) and last hour (void).

I caught best at 16 meters with maggots and feeding maggots and mircos via toss pot.  I caught F1's one a chuck, once it began to fade, then started to feed the waggler line with 4 and 6mm pellets, which saw me catch a few more fish.  But unfortunately this died and my lsst two hours was immensly tough and again my match slipped away.

Peg 23 Heron Lake.  Its about 22 meters to my white post.

Remember the fish are on average 3 - 5 to the pound.  So lots of bites from most areas.

Ivy House Lakes - Heron Pool

Ivy House Lakes.
Heron Lake
Peg 20
79lb
21 fished.

The pleasure of being your own boss see me have rare day off for me in the week, and Ivy House Lakes was my home for the day.  Good turn out, 21 on a mid week match.

Drew peg 20, which looked nice, fish topping in the area, so happy days.  I fished 14.5 meters with mirco pellets and maggots up the slope.  The fish do seem to have backed off towards island.

I started at 11 meters for two quick fish and had to go long pole and started feeding waggler line, as Vince was sacking on peg 21 (was next to two Vince's), this a good move and i caught well at 14.5 metres for all of the match.

Heron Lake has a few ghost common carp in the lake.

Jon Walker float.

All weights.

I had a lovely day, caught all my on maggots over mirco pellets. I wish I'd fished 14.5 metres a little sooner and had more maggots.

I filled the pot every chuck.  Miss a bite or waiting too long for a bite, refeed it again.  Ship back, don't be lazy.

Double maggot is my best bait on Heron Lake.  Seems to catch bigger fish.

Busy fishing, fed 2.5 pints of mircos and 1/2 pint of maggots.

I had 79lb for second overall.  84lb won it, well done Vince.

Ivy House Lakes - Heron

  • Peg 6
  • 26lb  6oz
  • Won section by default
  • 24 fished
Back to Ivy House Lakes today, on Heron Pool, sell out.  So every peg was in, so ideally don't wanna be in the corners.....

Speaking to Gary Donachie, he told me that Des won on peg 7, on the waggler and peg 6, where I drew was where Allan Oram struggled for a DNW and also last Sundays match 1lb 10oz came off it.....

I caught on pole straight away, 9 quick ish, then dead.  Unreal, so went long, 14.5 metres for no more bites.  Then was forced to pick up a rod.... I caught on cage feeder best.  Waggler wasn't great, especially been on a corner...  Felt I had to feed to get bites, couldn't feed maggots via caupult or 4mm pellet, as wind was too strong, so a feeder was best for me.

Prefect fish in Heron Pool.

Lots of bites off most pegs

Going back to Heron on Thursday for another go.

Todber Manor- Silvers.

Peg 42
3lb Silvers
33lb carp.
40 anglers fished.

This is only my fourth visit ever to Todber Manor, therefore my knowledge of the venue is very limited.  I had a good three matches on paste, but this was a Silvers match and its February.

I decided to be postive, as its an open match and a chance of qualifying for Silver's final in Easter.  No point in been negative?  So cupped in ten balls of Spottedfin's Dark Super Blend at 11 metres and 3 balls at 5 metres with some dead maggots.

Quickly realised this was mistake, no roach or small skimmers to be caught.... I made decision to fish pellet in hope for Tench or skimmers/bream... a few carp later i was in trouble.   A couple of Tench were getting caught, so needed some luck, as all anglers were catching odd carp too.  Time was ticking, therefore I decided to chuck a pellet feedet to island and caught a few carp, which wasn't enough or enough time to do any good in the overall weight pay out... 33lb of carp and a very embarrassing 3lb of silvers.  Still an incredible venue, look at the weights below.

Results.

1st: Steve Hutter 31lb 2oz (Peg 88 HG)

Ivy House Lakes - Heron Lake

Peg 13
60lb 10oz
2nd overall
15 fished

Heron is the new lake at Ivy House Lakes, Andy and Karen (owners of Ivy House Lakes) have decided to open this new lake earlier.

The buzz pegs on the morning before the draw was very early and late pegs, this is where the fish were stocked and fed daily.  So I drew Des Shipp peg 1, and myself peg 13... unlucky for some?!

The depths are Heron Lake are 4.5 foot deep and i opted for out and out pole and pellet attack, with a few maggots.

Great start at 7 meters, 7 tiny fish (mirrors about 2oz) in 7 puts and then nothing?!  Started a line at 10.5 meters and started catching.  Unfortunately the peg faded last hour, and I watched my match slip away to Liam's hands, fair play he had 65lb to my 60lb, which is quite a few fish, so may sound close, but that was 20 ish fish short.

Looking forward to Sundays open already.  Learnt a few things, so hopefully draw well again?!

Big postive rig

Spottedfin expanders are as good as they get

4 inch hooklength.  No messing around.  When the fish wise up, you won't get away with this
All today's weights on Heron pool.
If your hook boxes get wet, like mine did today, then put some rice on them.

Manor Farm Leisure- Round 6 of winter league

Peg 12 Ash
22lb
No good
5 on lake

I needed a load of luck in Manor Farm Leisure's final round of the winter league.  And my luck had almost certainly run out today.  Peg 12 on Ash, has been a decent area in the past, but with strong winds into my face, I would have issues with presentation and wind chin factor.  Also with pegs 5 and 21 not drawn on Ash Pool, this gave pegs 3 and 19 loads of room, but not as much as someone on Boundary Pool 😂.

I had 3 F1's in first hour and lost one at the net.... which proved VERY costly.  All on the lead.  Then had one F1 on the pole at 2.35pm.  Caught some skinmers on dead maggots in the middle of the match, but they were very small, and couldn't line them up.  Horrible feeling seeing your match slip away and I couldn't catch any F1's in last hour.

I came third lake (aka last) 22lb.... lost one F1, which I chinned on yellow meat, eased off and it came off.  This has cost me second on the lake,  23lb was second.  Ouch.....  should of stayed fishing for skimners, but was worried carp/F1's would feed in the last hour.

League wise, Ben Sutor won it. My best mate was second overall.  All results below

1st Ben Sutor (10 points)
2nd Gary Donachie (12 points)
3rd Steve Ford (13 points)
4th Liam Dennick (14 points)
5th Jamie Read ( 16 points)
6th Dixey and Steve Page (19 points)

7th me... fastest loser
