Thoughts of 2015

In 2014 I planned a lot out for this year, but unfortunately it didn't go to quite to plan.  The biggest highlight was Frank Donachie getting to he Fish O Mania final, what a day that was!!  I was overwhelmed to see Frank's support from his friends and family.

The final of Fish O was proper tough on both events, the individual and the international event.

Well done to Jamie Hughes for winning the event.

Me and Mark Malin worked on the Colmic stall and let people have a go with the colmic products.  We caught a few tench and loads of small skimmers.  Good day, made a few people happy as they caught some fish.

For me, Fish O Mania qualifiers were awful, I got a little despondent and I feel that I may not ever get back into the final again......  A new format has introduce for Fish O mania, will be interesting?!  I've applied for 10 tickets and 1 Maver Match Ticket (will apply for more, just need to plan my year out).

To me, friends and family are the most important thing in my life.  The beginning of 2015 was awful as Mark Malin had a bad car crash, where he was seriously injured!!!  I was so glad to see him back after months of not fishing, and fair play he was back to his winning ways very quickly!!

I took my dad to see a liver specialist in Brimingham, to discover that dad had Liver Cancer and there was nothing they could do.  So I lost my best friend, my dad a few months later. Unbelievable how aggressive cancer was.

I wrote an earlier post in my blog about my dad.  I am pleased to see the support for Mick Telling memorial match in 2016.  Should be a good few events.  We plan to have a qualifier on the Kennet and Canal (which he loved) and a twenty peg qualifier on Wick Water 2.  Then the final is on Bourton on Water, Colmic will sort the event and we will raise some money for Cancer Research.

Rest in peace dad.  Miss you.

On a more positive note, Ivy House lakes was kind to me again in 2015 and I had a good run of results mainly in Silver pools this year, and was also lucky enough to win a few matches overall as well.

104lb skimmers was my best weight at Ivy House Lakes of Silvers.

Rolfs Lake has some beautiful monster carp, I don't fish it as much as I have done of late.  One thing for sure, Rolfs Lake is the grave yard of poles, and every festival I fish, I always see poles broken, every year.  Me using Colmic poles, 100% reliable.  Only broke a number one section, with a angry 14lb common carp and 10 meters of ice!!!!  Most pole would be in pieces,  fact!

Not sure why, I must get myself Rolfs Lake more in 2016.

Snake lakes, is somewhere I need to develop.   Harescombe Fishery, has a great match lake which is 5 mile from my house!

Alders Farm fishery was where the Colmic lads went to on Winter League, we came second overall in the league.  Which was a good result considering are knowledge of the venue.  I also won the last two matches individually, which was nice, but had the same flyer twice!!! Which helps.

Colmic's new products for 2016 is exciting.  I can't believe I've been with Colmic for 4 years, where does the time go?

Frank Donachie in action at Rolfs Lake, doing more product testing and catching some munters on the way.

Ambitions for 2016

Most important thing for me is enjoying my fishing, as at the end of the day it is only game!!  Unfortunately you don't always see this on the bank, and there's always one that tries to push boundaries and cause trouble.

I would like to do well in Whiteacres, but always feel I am behind and make the wrong decisions especially when it come to baits.  If you not aware, Whiteacres has a 8 unit bait limit (8 pints in old school) and me not knowing the venue, I normally fall flat on my face.

The Fish O Mania final, would love to see myself, Mark or Frank in the final.

I would like to beat my venue record at Manor Farm Leisure, which is 353lb.

Happy new year to you and your family.

Harescombe Fishery. Christmas Match

Peg 11
21lb 15oz
No good
7th on lake
35 fished match

Hoping to draw peg 12, 13, 14, 15 on field lake.  But that didn't happen, and had to settle for peg 11 on the Match Lake.  This was going to be tough to compete against pegs 29, 30, 2, 3, 15, 16, 25, as these are apparently the noted "hot spots".  I can't complain, as my last two matches has saw me draw two flyers!! So I was due an average peg.

I started on bread at 13 meters of my Colmic F44 pole and the float didn't move, which was a bit worrying and Ian Didcote to my left had 4 early fish on it.  It was looking a little bleak and then my float did go under it was only a 1oz roach.  Not the start I wanted!!  So went on pellets, lost a fish immediately, was on for 2 seconds and then waited another 20 mintues to get a bite, which was a 6lb Common Carp, on 0.08 Stream, a bit hairie!!!  Amazing what you can do on balance tackle.  So 45 mintues of my fishing match had gone and I had 6lb ish.  One roach and one beautiful Common Carp.

To be honest, there isn't much else to write about!!! I just felt lost, rotated lines, to catch 1oz roach, very odd 4oz skimmer.  The last 25 mintues saw me catch a few more carp.  In total I had 7 carp for 20lb and 1 small F1, and a few bits and bobs.

I do need to get better at these snake lakes, as I felt the peg was worth 35lb.  I lost three carp, that pulled out!!!  Unreal, 0.11 Colmic F1 spider and 0.08 Colmic stream takes some punishment

Alders Farm Fishery - Round 6

Peg 5 Pines
115lb
1st Section
1st overall
35 anglers fished the match.
Team 3rd on the day
2nd overall in league.

I had about 40 carp, which ranged from 1lb to 4lb.  Average is about 2lb!!

Colmic lads didn't have the best of draws to be honest.  I not one for blaming external factors, as it's too easy to blame the peg and then wheel spin out of the car park at the end?!  Anyway, our draw on the final round of Alders Farm Fishery winter saw us draw pegs 30 and 5 on Ash Pool.  So Frank Donachie went on the shallow peg again, which was going to be potentially very hard (and it was mega tough).

Glen Picton was a peg 5 on Ash, which better area, but not the best of pegs in that section.   Glen the feeder pro, unfortunately struggled on the feeder and caught mainly on the pole.

Liam went on peg 31, despite me encouraging him to go on peg 5.    Liam caught 14 carp on the pole with pellets.  Poor guy has had two visits and has fished the same corner of Pines Lake.

Me, I had the best peg out of the bunch and caught on the waggler and the pole.  Had a really nice day.

I was really pleased that the team done well in the league and we are all great friends and shared everything.

My results.

I fished on Pines every round.

I was lucky enough to have three lake wins, which was two overall match wins, second in section, a fourth and sixth in section.  Learnt a fair bit.  So all in the memory bank.

I was lucky, drew peg 5 three times, and messed it up on the first round.

Peg 5, 1st  115lb 4oz
Peg 5, 1st  115lb 3oz
Peg 17 4th.  18lb 7oz
Peg 15 6th. 32lb
Peg 8, 1st. 113lb 1 oz
Peg 5, 2nd. 100lb 2oz

Colmic 2016 Catalogue

Colmic's 2016 catalogue is out now

Colmic poles have established themselves as the strongest and most reliable poles on todays market.  Ask anyone that owns one!!!  I've used my Colmic F44 for almost three years, never broke a section!!!  To me, that says everything!  The Colmic H1 Slim 10m, is a power pole of a margin pole and really good value.

Colmic poles will be a show stopper in 2016

The speci plus handle is incredibly stiff and strong.
