Wickwater, Staits Lake

This is an annual match run on my dad's favourite lake, so I'm very grateful to South Cerney Angling Club and to Dan Garner letting us use the lake again.

18 anglers fished today's event, which was run by Frank Donachie and his son Gary Donachie (my best mate).  Apologies that I didn't come.

Top weight was Craig Curtis 91lb 4oz who fished the bomb and pellets.  My dad used to fish with Craig and his dad, so nice touch that Craig won.... I bet your dad is chuffed!!

Tony Elvis Randall was close second with 90lb 8oz on pellet waggler.

8 years ago I drew this peg and weighed 385lb in 4 hours.... and today in 6 hours I weighed unfortunately 6oz.  Never saw any fish and hooked and lost one carp, which undoubtedly lost me the section.... Frank lost 3 and a stockie out at the death.

I feel the venue has a few fish in it, and has been under attack from anglers, easy to blame the venue rather than yourself.   Easy for me to moan about the venue.... but conditions were OK ish ( over cast, evening match, plenty of room).  A lot of venues suffered from lower oxygen levels this weekend... which in turn people had poorer results.

Third round of the Fishing Association cup.  Drew against Pemb Wrighting on a home draw, so took him to Ivy House Lakes on Heron pool.   The Fishing Association cup is a knock out cup, fish against one angler on an open match and your fishing for £100k.  See link below for further details

I got destroyed, never mix my words,  I was caster disaster... I hoped to catch on paste and edge on maggots but didn't work.  Hard to fish casters shallow, couldn't get it to work... until the last part of match and I was miles behind.

I drew peg 84 Homeground.

Came no where with 196lb!! (Came 4th overall I think, but no good in my opinion).    Got proper destroyed by either side, Scott had 324lb and Mark had 300lb!!
