Manor Farm Leisure - Island and Middle Pools

Peg 36 Island Pool
39lb 12oz
Won section (default)
23 fished

Undecided where to go, my choices of Ivy House Lakes, Hillview and Manor Farm Leisure.... so decided to go Manor Farm Leisure. Drew peg 36 Island Pool.  Had a nightmare of fishing,
Lost loads.....

Lost 20lb on method..... one hook pull from 10lber plus 1st chuck and got seen off by the reeds.  Nightmare

Lost 6 on pole and worms.  6lb+ F1.... it was massive.  At the net.   All hook pulls.

Lost 4 skimmers.... again hook pulls.

Some how I won my section..... default

Maver Match This - Glede

Maver Match This
Glede
Peg 11.
49lb
No good
100 ish fished.

Chasing rainbows again at the Glede today.  Hoping for a draw, the same as everybody else.... drew peg 11.  Which has been a tough area, Wednesday's UK Champs proved this, as Emma Pickering had 39lb off the peg, with a bit of room.  However different day, but unfortunately struggled for bites.  Limped home with 49lb.  69lb won our 5 peg section.

Fished really hard. Peg 8 won my section with 69lb.
2 x 100lb plus weights on peg 1 and the other end peg on my lake.

Spring League. 4th Round. Hungerford

C22
7lb
Second in my section
92 fished
4th on my board out of 23.

I tried and failed for a bonus perch early in the deep water.  Then had a quick look on the skimmer line, as these fish tend to feed very early or late.  No bites.  Head down on squatts for a bite a chuck and had quick looks for skimmers, caught 1 about 12oz.  Which gave me false hope.  I should of squatted it all day.... but thought I had a chance of big perch and skimmers.  However, I had another great days fishing this week.

Team wise, we came 8th and 9th overall.  Which is respectable in that field of anglers, but a bit disappointing.  My points weren't great, out of 8 points I had 3, 3, 8 and 7 points.  So average of 5.25 out of 8.  In the individual league I came 22nd out of 92 anglers.... disappointing.

Thanks to Ditch for running the league.  Great job.  Also John Williams for pegging it.  For me, I wont fish the league next year as I feel I struggle to compete against the canal lads and also the canal this time of year is brutal.  Great if you on them, but very tough to stay motivated if your not..... when I saw anglers win sections with 9oz's... time for me to stay away.

Manor Farm Leisure - May Festival

F1 groundbait was used for my worm mix on the last day.  Love this stuff.

Day 1
Peg 27 Middle Pool
62lb 8oz
4th in 10 peg section
50 fished

On arrival to my peg, I was shocked how many carp more milling around down the edge.  I really fancied it for a huge weight and thought I would break my own venue record.  Anyway, how wrong could I be..... I caught nothing down the edge.  Best line was worms in tiny bit of top soil.  Normally, in my experience fishing worms and caster loose is better on Middle Pool.  But perch were a problem.  So soil over come the issue of tiny perch.  I had a few fish on pellets.  But our end of the lake fished hard?

Won £1 off Gary Watts.

Day 2

Peg 18 Ash
58lb
Won lake / section

Very hot and still conditions, I found myself chopping and changing.  I caught best with worms and very wet soil and caught 12 inches deep.  Worm soil would of been loads better, but used top soil.  Sunk a bit too quick.  Lesson learnt and lucky it didn't cost me.

The lake was surprisingly quite clear and I opted to fish worms in soil, as I knew this would catch everything.  Casters was "the norm" but looking around the Lakes, then maybe it was too bright and the air pressure and pressure from anglers.

Day 3

Peg 24 Windmill
145lb
Won section
1st place overall
50 fished

Draw my favourite peg on the complex.  It's not everyone's "cup of tea" Peg 24 Windmill, but in my opinion and experience it's an awesome peg (this winter it was awful, as the water level has been so low).

You need to fish tight against the bank and be prepared to PULL.  So put my Garbolino UK1 through its paces, especially catching 145lb to win the match and a stunning 16lb 10oz Mirror which was my last fish of the day and had 52lb of silvers.  Most importantly I won the section.  So two section wins and a fourth.

Day 4

Peg 16 Island Pool
66lb
3rd in section/Lake
50 fished

Fourth day of the Manor Farm Leisure Festival and I drew peg 16 Island.

Method feeder and bomb and pellet was at the top of my list.  But would have a worm line in a lot of top soil at 14 meters to hopefully catch F1's and skimmers.  Worm line kept fading and the lead and method only gave me 3 F1's and a tiny carp..... oh and 3 skimmers.

I felt I messed up.

Day 5
39 Boundary Pool
60lb (41lb of all skimmers)
Third in section/lake
50 fished.

Got the peg I wanted on the lake, peg 39 Boundary, an end peg too.  I did really fancied it for a few, played it safe and fished worms in groundbait for skimmers and have a couple of pellet lines.  Too be honest ut just didn't really happen, skimmer was good, but no F1's and no fish down the edge, unreal.  Pegs 19 and 33 who struggled the day before, caught today.

I had 12 points total to win the festival.
Dave Howard 2nd with 13 points
Lee Richards, Steve Rich and Mick Bull were third with 14 points.

Summary

Obviously really pleased to win Manor Farm Leisure May festival.  The venue has been very kind to me.  It has fished very tough by Manor's standards, due to weather and fish thinking about spawning.  I have fished worms every day to catch everything that swims.  I've caught over 170lb of skimmers in 5 days and 16lb 10oz Mirror Carp on Windmill Pool (no 20lb's or 300lb plus weights for me this year)

Thanks to Dave, Wendy, Howard, Monty and the team for a great 5 days fishing.

Spring League - Round 3.

Peg C8 Potters
2lb 10oz
Section win
8 points
92 people fished

Another awful draw, three end pegs in a 8 peg section.  So really up against again .....

Decided to pray for a big fish at the beginning...  so fished worms for the first 15 minutes, which resulted in no bites (shock).

After this, looking around and been next to a "canal guru" I realised it was MEGA tough.  So been a team match,  I fished a negative squatt match to catch 45 little fish for decent points.  Could of fished worms all day for selfish reason and may of blanked!!

Algae bloom was a killer.

Clear water.

Disappointed again, 15 hours on the canal and not one bite on the worm.  No bonus fish or end peg  = normally means no section win.

Thats the hardest I've EVER seen Potters fish.

1st Simon Hebditch (Garbolino BV Green)14-5
2nd Liam Bradell 8lb
3rd: Ian Dunlop (Garbolino BV Green)- 6-2
4th: Tom Moretti (Daiwa Dorking)- 6-0
5th: John Bohane (Matrix Talismen Yellow)- 5-10
6th: Simon Willsmore (Daiwa Dorking)- 5-9

On the team front 3 sides tied for first Garbolino BV Green, Drennan Bordon Pink and Garbolino BV Gold all with 28 points.
4th: Drennan Bordon Blue- 25.
5th: Daiwa Dorking- 24.

Overall standings after 3 rounds.

Garbolino BV Gold 76 points
Drennan Bordon Blue 74 points
Daiwa Dorking 71 points.
PI Thatchers Sonubaits- 69
Garbolino BV Marine- 63

Manor Farm Leisure

Peg 13 Windmill Pool
61lb
Won lake
25 fished

I was quite surprised how clear the lake was and unfortunately a little low.  Bright sun and flat calm not ideal for fishing.  So it was going to be a tough match.  Also we were in for a hard May Festival too.  Which I know planned to fish, as I put my mini into the garage for a new clutch.

So geared myself up for a tough match and all out pole fishing.  18 meters of UK1 to the island not ideally.... but a must in my opinion.  Also casters in open water, to catch shallow.

Todber Festival

Day One
Peg 78 Homeground
133lb
6 points

Never fished Homeground before, draw next to Des Shipp, got destroyed, he had 188lb to my 133lb and I got sore ears!!

Mistakes.

Should of fished the method feeder in middle of the two islands earlier.  Not knowing the venue....
Pellets line at 5 meters was good, but got snapped up twice on my first two fish.  Unreal.  0.16 was alright for the rest of the match...

Day 2
Peg 8
63lb 8oz
7 points

Never seen Whitepost before.
Mistakes

Should of fished maggots.  Theres very few silvers in the lake, so getting "bitted" out shouldn't be problem.

The method was poor and lost them to the pipe, which was like knife.  Guru going to love me buying more feeders.

Day 3
Peg 48
151lb
2 points

I drew second best peg in Europe today on Hillview.

Mistakes

First 4.5 hours has been awful.
Method failed.  Hooked someones line at the beginning, snapped off.  Then had a carp.  Then lost one on the method.... the lake was quite slow for most.  Some people did fish a maggot feeder the day before and caught.

Had a new elastic snap on a 4lb fish... ouch.  Cost me quite a few quid.

Lost a few foul hookers at 14 meters.  Almost lost the plot.  I put a big rig on, 0.7 gram in 4 foot water, with a 4 inch hooklength and the bulk by the hooklength.  This was loads better!!
The edge came good.... but only in the last hour and 30 minutes.  I had a few go around the point, which somehow I pulled it back around, 14.5 meters of pole in the air with 8lb carp wasnt ideal....  I must of caught 80lb to 100lb in this time but I had already thrown the match away.... lost the section by 3lb.

May?  So cold Sunday and Monday morning.

Theres quite a few "munters" in the lakes.  Biggest fish of the week was 20lb 9oz.

I ended up with a VERY disappointed 15 points and 21st overall out of 72 anglers.  Great fishing, caught 340lb in 3 days and I'm moaning.  Awesome venue.  ALL results in the pictures below.

Results

1st: Joe McMahon - 4 pts
2nd: Des Shipp - 5 pts
3rd: Ben Hagg - 5 pts
4th: Martin Rayet - 6 pts

6th: Eddie Green- 9 pts
