Alvechurch Fisheries - Cancer charity match.

Peg 20
143lb
Won lake
Second overall
32 anglers fished
Mark Olds raised £1250.

Back at Alvechurch today for a charity match, fishing to raise money for Cancer.

The match was across Horseshoe Lake and Colmic Canal.  I wasn't too brothered where i drew, but canal was more favoured lake on the day.  I thought canal lake would take the pressure better, however Steve Bellion destroyed Horseshoe lake with 158lb.

For me, I'm not great at snake lakes, no good at this speed fishing..... which proved for the first couple of hours and i did fish like a "mong".  However, had a good run of Ide on a worms head, loose feeding caster on a top kit down the edge.... unfortunately run out of caster (3 pint limit).  Therefore now forced to fish paste, which was a good move, last 1 hour 50 minutes i had caught small carp really well. Maybe done 80lb in that time.

Really enjoyed the day, despite a poor start.  Alvechurch Canal really is a great venue, average weight was 80lb with 16 anglers on it.

Thanks to Alvechurch team for another great day and great cause.  Free beer and burger.....  well burgers 😂.

Alvechurch - Horseshoe Lake

Peg 26
168lb
1st place
16 fished

It has to be one of favourite lakes, I do love Horseshoe lake  it can be challenging at times, as for whatever reason you do seem to suffer a few hook pulls at times, as i found out today.

Finally got a decent draw, peg 26, which i was there a few weeks ago and won on worms long.  However todays match I could not make that work.  So loose feeding 6mms which was good but couldnt catch shallow and ended up having a mare.... pulled out of loads..... need to figure that out? Suggestions welcome

I caught really well at 5 meters feeding corn and fishing paste over the top.  Fed 4 tins.

Gear used

0.2 Gram Jon Walker paste float
0.20 straight through
14 hook
3mm Mosella Ozone Hollow elastic

Mick Telling Memorial - Kennet Avon Canal - 2018.

Mick Telling Memorial match
Round 2.

This has been the third year of running this event.  I want to keep the same date, so people can plan this into their diarys..... its always the last Sunday in June.  This years event see a slight decline in anglers, which is fully understanable as the football is on and the match clashed with a couple of other events.  So hopefully next year we will get around 30 anglers.  Remember you can fish it as an Open match.  This is open to everyone.

I was really pleased to get some support from companies and individuals.  I never asked anyone, Marukyu and Guru just donanted.... also Jon Walker gave some of floats away and Graham Didcote gave a days fishing on the Wye.  This boosted sales on the raffle and evey ticket was sold.

Anyway, the fishing, i didnt fish.  I decided to sit with Jon Walker for a bit, after knocking Dereks Trolly into the canal, sorry.  Also done some live feeds via Facebook, which I never done before.

The canal fished quite well for most, especially in our heatwave.  Boats weren't too much of a problem, apart from one "Lewis Hamilton"...... why is there always one tw@t!!!!

Today's winner was Mike Marsden with 29lb of skimmers on peg F2.  Dave Wilson from peg F5 was second with 24lb.  Vince Grillo had 18lb on B1, the only end peg to get in the frame.  Also I done sections of 3 and the winner gets £30.  £25 pools on the day.  So the money is always well spread out, so people have something to fish for, even if they haven't drawn like "Martyn Howard" (end peg bung hole).

Today's Winner, my team mate, Mike Marsden with 29lb

Manor Farm Leisure- Marukyu Pro Staff match

Peg 13
36lb
no good
16 fished

This is a private match run by Marukyu, which is lovely to see all the Marukyu lads.  The main aim of this match is to get into the top 4 to qualify for the final on Ash Lake at Manor Farm Leisure.

I haven't been to Manor for ages, for one reason or another..... not enough hours in the week.  I was pleased with peg 13, felt I would catch on the method to the island?  Err no, unreal.  Caught all my fish bar one on the 25 meter line.  Mega tough.  Flat calm and red hot not great catching weather.

Mick Telling Memorial- Wickwater

Peg 16
24lb 2oz
Won section (only 4 in section)
5th overall.
20 fished the match.

Wickwater was without doubt my Dad's favourite lake!

The draw was not ideal, but it was all about winning your section to get through to my dads final.  So with my draw i was going to fish for carp early (20 mintues) and a few quick looks through the day..... and fish for carp late.  Feeding 8mm and 6mmAnimo pellets to island.  Then fish casters short and shorter.  Also have a dump line for paste.

Well, to keep it short and sweet, i caught everything on casters.  Mainly caught on deck at 7 meters.  Really disappointing not to catch shallow.... too bright i guess.

Golden Reel - Heronbrook

Peg 29 Meadow
89lb
No good
64 people fished the match.

Heronbrook has been a little cruel to me so far this year, can't seem to make the right decisions and not drawing these "ends and bends".   Last year, I was lucky with the draw bag, but this year?!  Heronbrook is cracking venue, just wish it was closer and i would go every week

This is my first Golden Reel quaifier, a little disappointed with the draw, and knew i couldn't win from here, especially with 4 pegs on Island Pool and 5 pegs on Match Lake, this would be my choice of areas.  I  tired to win my 5 peg section, which i failed miserably.....

Middle two hours was void, and i do mean void, so frustrating not to catch.  Oh well..... nice to get some bites.  Caught mainly on worms.

Mikey Williams won the match on Island Pool.  249lb ish.  Caster shallow.

Garbolino UK 1

So, 8 weeks on, my Garbolino UK1 Pole is still in one piece and I'm so impressed with it, and this is why;

Garbolino UK1 is super stiff

It is slimmer, ligther and stiffer than my old pole.  I ain't getting any younger or any stronger, so a lighter pole is without doubt a benfit, especially as I seem to be always fishing long.

The UK1 doesn't come apart, just like my old Colmic Airon F44 pole, so at least i know i can throw it around without fear of it coming apart.

Primarily I was concerned on the top kits for my Garbolino, as they were very slim, and worried that thick hollow elastics were going to stick to the side wall, and the top kites do bend a bit.  However, never broke one, yet, and ive pulled loads!!!  So this hasn't been an issue at all.

Also the Garbo does short kits, they are really good.  Stiff, light, strong and good value.  All top kits come with a side puller, that is flat, so don't damage top kits in storage.  Its also at 45 degrees, so your elastic doesn't dig into the side wall.
