Alders Farm

Peg 8 Pines
95lb
3rd overall
13 fished

Haven't been to Alders Farm Fishery for ages and normally when I fish it, I'm on Pines (one of my favourite lakes in the country) and today we were on Ash Pool.  Was lucky enough to draw a decent peg, an end peg too.  Ain't had one for a while....

For me it was an all out on a pellet approach in open water and maggots down the edge.  Simple.

Started short at 6 meters and had 4 carp.  Then a very slow 1 hour,  caught nothing at 13 meters and unfortunately nothing on pellet feeder or method.  In this time I had been pinging 13 meter line, which was light switch.  This transformed my peg and even caught four carp shallow.  Nice day.   What a venue.

Gear used;

Colmic Airon F66 Pole
4x12 float
0.152 Spider Line and 0.125 Stream hook length
2.1mm Colmic Hollow Elastic.

Go and see Colmic Airon F66 at Alders Farm

I'm a great fan of 4mm lasso pellet

EC300 - fantastic top kit.

EFG150 with black dye.... awesome winter mix

Kennet and Avon canal. Devizes (Pile and Semington)

Peg 42
4lb 2oz
3rd in my eight peg section
47 anglers fished

Devizes Canal doesn't seem to be too kind to me lately, never seem to be lucky enough to be on a "bung hole billy peg".  The last time I had a peach of a peg, was on the Fish O Mania qualifier, which was years ago, and I don't wanna live in the past. So that's enough of that.

Today see me draw the same peg as I did in last years winter league.  Gutted.  Ready to get battered and i did.  I caught over hundred tiny roach 4lb 2oz.  No bonus fish.
Weights were:

Peg 44 13lb 5oz
Peg 43 9oz
Peg 42 4lb 2oz
Peg 41 DNW
Peg 40 DNW
Peg 39 3lb 7oz
Peg 38 1lb 12oz

Bristol Avon - Chippenham and Melksham- Round 3 Upper Thames

B2
10lb 14oz
2nd in section
6th overall

So I drew suicide straight again, but drew peg B2 which was where Bob Davies was the previous week and came 4th in section with 5lb and James Carty drew it Wednesday just gone and had 2lb.  So was concerned that I woukd struggle to beat B1 and B6 and also which Ian Sheapard (brilliant river angler) on peg B3 (Oak Tree) I was going to big in trouble, not making excuses before I start, just stateing the facts.

The match.

The wind was awful with this hurricane, so was concerned about fishing long.  However plumming up, the shelf went off at 12 meters and it was only 4.5 foot deep prior to that.   So decide to put two balls of groundbait there and 5 balls at 13 meters and choppie at 16 meters where the peg was deepest and it was just before cabbages.... the wind was going to be he'll.

Start are 6 meters for 3 minnows and Ian below me had caught 2 roach and a small skimmers in that time.  Bugger.  I wanted to rest the 13 meter line, as I hoped to catch a early skimmers.   I went on the 13 meter line and caught a small dace, then a couple of runs through had a roach.  But thought I'd get the skiMyers rig, with double maggot and caught err nothing.   I was getting battered.   Went to 16 meters of my Airon F66 pole and caught two quick perch, 4oz and 6oz.  So refeed it and went on the Grounbait line again, and only caught tiny roach..... 20 mintues on that and back on Choppie and caught 4 perch for 3lb.  Nice.  This put me level with Mick Gale.  So decide to rotate between choppie and 13 meter line.  And caught odd fish between the two lines, had to rest both lines and only take two fish off each.  It was hard work and the Colmic F66 pole was awesome in the wind, even with an angry 2lb Chub that went metal to begin with.....

I was pleased to come second in section.  Was a decent result, would of sooner won, but beating Ian off that peg was going to be mega tough.  All weights are below.

Alvechurch Fisheries- winter league 1

Peg 14
23lb
12th out of 17

Not the start I wanted.  I hope that's a dropper.  Your allowed to drop your three worse results....

Not sure what else I could of done, maybe fished maggots only and caught everything, rather than fishing pellets for carp, which I was unable to catch.

Gary Donachie won the match.   Great start for him.  Next round is on Horseshoe, so a lake that I personally like better, as there is some get out of jail fish.

Bristol Avon - Chippenham. Winter league 2

B3
11lb
Won section
Team was 5th
48 anglers fished the match.

The last couple of matches on the river have seen me really struggled, a last and second to last in the section.  This is a little rough.

This is the second round of the Angling Trust Winter league, and we a team, Colmic Devizes, need to do well, as we third last round, which unfortunately didn't happen, as we came 5th.  So therefore we need some serious luck for the next 4 rounds.

Brilliant start.  Crying shame it didn't last.

Bristol Avon. Melksham

Peg 26
2lb 11oz
Last

Bristol Avon - Melksham

On arrival to my peg I was surprised how wide it was and good it all looked.  However, lack of flow and clear to could be a tough match and the locals said I would be up against it, as the pegs downstream tend to be a lot better.  So with this in mind, I was going to be positive.  But the first mistake I made was leaving my rods at home.... what a school boy error.

Upper Thames winter league. Round 1. Radcot and Lechlade

C3 (lechlade)
7lb 13oz
5th out of 6th.  Not good
48 fished
Team was third on the day.

Was really looking forward to today's river match and our Upper Thames Winter League.  Hoped to do well again, and was handed C3, which was a good area, but be hard to beat the pegs to my right.  But fancied it none the less.  Was unsure to ball it, so "if in doubt, then go without" is my moto...

Set up 5 roach rigs, waggler rod and 2 chop rigs.  It was only about 4 foot deep and very weedy. Wish I had a rake?  Left it shed....... it's in the van now.

Set up

Colmic Airon F66 pole
Lux float
Stream
Professional 15 float rod

Basically what I learnt last week, didn't work this week.  Loose feeding was key and the heavier it was, the better it become and me relying on groundbait regularly topped up was a waste.  Chop worm didn't work.  A bit gutted, as perch do normally save me, but the "billies" didn't.   So came second to last in section, which was a real disaster for me and more importantly for the team.  As we lost the league match by 2 points.  Sorry lads.  I'm not one to blame the pegs, it was worth 15lb all day long.

I hope to put Melksham/ Chippenham correct next week.
