Partridge Lakes - Fish O Mania

Peg 2 Willow.
30lb 3oz.
No good.
180 fished

I must say the venue is scienc, very clean, tidy, shame it's 2.5 hour drive away from my house.

Lack of knowledge of the venue, and 6 pint bait limited i was concerned that i'll select the wrong baits, which i did.  The venue fished tough, due to numbers on the lake and also this is a funny time of year, due to spawning.
I wished i fished a super negative match, feed micro's and fished 4mm expander on the hook. But i took 4mm pellets and fished 6mm had pellet, which i quickly realised was wrong! Also i should of fished meat in the deep water, i think that would of been good for the skimmers and small f1's. Micro pellet and meat was missing off my bait tray...

Coleman's Cottage. Fish O Mania

Peg 28 Pathfield
89lb 8oz
won section
2nd on lake
6th overall
130 fished

Couldn't believe how shallow the lake was!  At 5 meters the lake was 2.5 foot! That was the deepest part of the lake!
I caught all my fish against the island, middle past of the match was immensly tough, which has cost me a frame placeI

started on exander pellet which resulted in a 6oz carp straight away, nice. Caught a roach, so switched to bandeded pellet, which was ok, but faded away, therefore put another section on, and fished in the gap, with caster and worms. But realised worms weren't right, so fished casters for the rest of match, a good move, but should of done it hour earlier! Not knowing the venue has cost me a frame place. Don't get me wrong, i caught well, as most people throw back and 30lb to 40lb was the average weights, as you can refer to the weights on my lake. But it's turning an average peg into a framer!

Well done to Gary Bull for winning the event!!!

Manor Farm Leisure - Spring Festival

Manor Farm Leisure 2014 Festival.

This is the third year that i'm fishing the Manor Farm Festival.  Hoping to put the last two years mistakes right and hope for a few flyers on the way.
This year has been colder than the last 2 years of fishing the Manor Farm Leisure Festival.

The entry fee is £140, which is everything (pools and peg fee's).

The festival is decided on points, every day counts (can't drop your worst result). It's sections of ten or eleven and is a random draw each day. So you can be really lucky or potentailly every unlucky.

Day One

Peg 4 Ash.
2nd in section.
75 fishing.

I was pleased to draw Ash Pool again, as I made a few mistakes yesterday, which cost me the lake win and a frame place.
However the weather couldn't be so different, as yesterday was wet and very wild (windy), and today was lovely and fish was topping everywhere. Peg 4 wouldn't be my first choice of peg, as you haven't got a edge peg and also it tends to be better in the middle of the lake. Peg 7 and 18 would be my preferred draws.

Today's fishing match was going to be simple, pellets and more pellets. Was going to feed 4mm and 6mm's on the pole and dead maggots down the edge, which as 2 meters to my left.  So I put both my keepnets to my right, trying to create as less commotion and not spook these wary carp!!  It didn't work, I caught one ghost carp

Day Two

Peg 24
76lb
2nd section

Peg 24 Island has been a tough area in recent times, it can throw up decent weights, but as an whole I would sooner stay away from this area, despite drawing it frequently!!!

As you haven't got the scope, as it's a short chuck to the island, only about 25 meters. So I opted to fish pole at the 5 meters, 13 meters, 15 to 17 meters and a method to the island. Also if it was really tough, a straight lead with boilie or smelly meat.

I had 2 carp and a small F1 which would of gone 20lb on method feeder.  Then had a steady run if fish on the pole. But the last couple of hours were very tough, and could only nick the odd fish from here and there!!!  The surprise if the day, was catching a 2lb angrey eel!!

Was pleased to come 2nd in my ten peg section. Roll on day three. Praying for a decent draw!!

Day Three

Peg 35 Island.
80lb 8oz
3rd in section

Worms are beginning to work now with the decent weather, but we are all concerned about the fish starting to spawn.   I was going to plan my attack on pole with worms on the pole. Start on the method and hopefully catch a few early fish. I was next to Mark Malin, so got a challenge on my hands.

Day Four

Peg 37
39lb
3rd in section.

This was a super tough day, as it was red got and flat calm.

I caught 20 skimmers, 2 small carp and 8 F1's. I was lucky as i just beat Shaun Little, as he had edge fish late. If Shaun would of had another 10 minutes he would of beat me!

Day five

Peg 24 Windmill
162lb
Won section
Joint 5th overall

1ST CHRIS TELLING 162-6-0

5TH FRANEK STANIUSZKO 103-12-0
Peg 20 Island
6TH PAUL LITTLE 100-4-0
Peg 5 Island

A bit like Milo Festival at White Acres, i do feel that i should of done better.  Fishing can be like chess, making the right decisions and been patient.
In reflection i only caught once down the edge on festival, which was the last day, whereby i won the match off a flyer, but failed to caught on Boundary on the 4th day. Caught skimmers on worms, as predicted and couldn't catch in the last part of the match! Which was very important, as Shaun Little almost beat me, and caught 25lb in last 40 minutes! Whereas i struggled for 5lb! What a difference.

All Winners - Woodlands View

Peg 14 High Pool.
23lb. 1oz
last

The All Winners final is on Woodlands View, which is a venue that i've never seemed to do well and today was the same.
Couldn't for my life catch shallow... hoped to catch short and down, which only saw me catch roach!

Well done to Gordon League for winning the event!!

Fish O Mania - Monks Lake

Peg 142
61lb
2nd in section in my ten peg section
No good (66lb on peg 146)

So tired after getting up at 3.45am, the earlier I've got up for a while!!!  Then felt even more drained after a 3.5 hour journey.   On arrival to the venue, I was amazed how big it was and after a BIG breakfast and an energy drink I was ready for action. I drew peg 142, which meant nothing to me, as I've never been here before. I was told by some of the regulars told me that the lake is full of small carp (stockies) up to 3lb and I was on a point if Island and last year an angler was second overall on peg 135 ish.

The water levels was low. There was rocks across the Island, which limited me to pole and more pole. Pluming at 16 meters it was very shallow.  The bait limit is 8 pints of loose bait, 1kg worms and 2kg dry groundbait.  So I took;
3 pints of meat
3 pints of maggots
2 pints of pellet (4mm and 6mm)
2kg of Bait Tech special G.

I caught a 2lb carp at 15 meters first chuck and then a Rudd. Quickly realised I should be at 5 meters, as the lad next to me was catching short on pellet. So I went in at 5 meters and caught steady for 40 mintues on 6mm meat. Just tossed potted 4mm meat over the top.   Unfortunatly this didn't last and bites dried up until the last hour. Despite priming a few lines, margins failed to produce and really frustrating I had fish topping infront of me all day, but couldn't cast to them. The guy next to me on peg 141 chucked across and hooked several, but only managed to get one across the rocks, where he had maybe 6 inches of water. Whereas I had an beach..... don't understand why the water levels were low? As it seemed to be 2 foot to 18 inches down.

Dan Brydon won today with 220lb. On peg 2 on Bridge.  Well done mate, good luck for the Fish O Mania Final.
