Manor Farm Leisure - Boundary Pool

Peg 25
106lb
1st overall
13 fished

This is my personal highest weight off Boundary Pool.  I did drew really well, as I had the wind in my face and loads of room!!! Couldn't ask for more!

Caught all fish on banded pellet, 6 mm.  Fished 0.4 Jon walker pellet special to 0.152 F1 Spider Line and 0.125 stream, 18 Drennan Carp match.  Feed 2.5 pints of 6mm coarse pellet, no oils or special additives, just plan and simple (like me).

Colmic top kits are really stiff, so your elastic works a lot better!!

Caught a few on the "tap" late.

Loads of bites, enjoyable day!!

Manor Farm Leisure

Peg 19 Middle
111lb 8oz
2nd Overall
28 fished

I drew on Middle Pool, peg 19 which is the shallow end of the lake, and the wind was blowing over my back to start with, which was concerning, as ideally wanted the wind to be howling into me.  So if honest was a little disappointed.  Also.there was a match on the other bank, and they all seemed to be struggling.
As I started kitting up my Colmic Airon F44 pole the wind started to turn and was blowing to my left.  Mark Hemming came up before the match started and was suprised of lack of movement.

I was going to fish a simple match, pellets out and groundbait with dead maggot down the edge. Simple.  Set up a straight lead, but was concerned as there was a guy on peg 16.  So hoped to catch on the pole.

As soon as the match started I shipped out to 14.5 meters with a toss pot full of 4 mm pellets and a banded 6mm pellet on the hook.  I had a bite straight away, good sign and caught well ish for the first hour, quite a few carp and therefore feed my margin line after 40 mintues hoping that it could be a red letter day.... It wasn't.

I struggled to catch down the edge, only 2 BIG F1's and a small mirror carp.  Was pleased to catch 111lb to win section and second overall.  I forgot how good manor farm leisure is!!  If you look at the board weights I would say the average weight was 50lb and you needed 80lb to win sections.  Good weights in bad conditions.

Well done to Mark Hemming for winning the match, I said before we started that I never beat him at Manor Farm Leisure.

Ivy House Lakes

Peg 29 Willow
49lb
3rd overall
16 fished

With the wind off our backs, this could be another tough days fishing.  Edge fish are important at Ivy House Lakes, but you normally need ripple in order for the fish to come down and feed confidently, no ripple = no edge fish (normally).

Draw next to Gary Etheridge, which wouldn't take me on a £1 side bet.....   I would fish for carp for the first 30 minutes and then hopefully the last hour and fish for skimmers in the middle.

It fished really hard, Baggy was doing well, but our bank was rock hard.   I had fish come down the edge, which broke the rule book, but unfortunately still managed to foul hook a couple, which I frustrating lost, I was lucky and had a 10lb Ghostie at the death which was no problem for my Colmic Airon F44 pole!

I had 10lb ghost carp at the death, that got me out of trouble!!!

Cudmore Fishery - Fish O Mania

Day 1 practice

Cudmore fishery had spent a lot of time and money in preparation for this years Fish O Mania.  The lake was completely drained and restocked.  Franks first visit saw him catch plenty of fish on worms and casters shallow, his best catch rate was 15 carp in 8 minutes.  The new stocky carp ranged from 6 to 8oz a piece, a few bigger specimens up to 6lb.

Day 2 practice

Frank, brought myself, Raplh, and Glen for a small line up.  Line ups are about trying to figure out the "do's and don'ts".  I hate when I've fished in line ups for various teams over the years and all I've tried to do is catch the most fish to prove to other team mates that a worthy to fish for the team.  This becomes unproductive as you don't share ideas and you don't fine tune.

Day 3

The lake is definitely slowing down, the fish have a been caught a few times, everyday for the last week and therefore have wised up!!!  Method does seem to lean towards fishing the pole with worms and micro pellet mush, but sometimes feeding neat worm brings the fish straight back normally.   Dumping bait via a big pot isn't the key, maybe worth a tench or two at six meters, but only able to catch very short periods, so this was going to be Franks throw away line.  Remember that Fish O Mania pay £1000 for the biggest fish.   Only three prizes in the Fish O Mania, first prize is £30,000, second prize is £5000 and £1000 for the biggest fish.

Day 4

The species that Frank was catching was mainly fish from 4oz to 10oz fish.  Little carp, Ide, And Tench.

There is some bigger fish, 1lb skimmers.  Tench between 1lb to 2lb 8oz.  Carp up to 4lb.  We predict that 5lb fish is likely to win the biggest fish price (£1000).  The biggest fish we caught was a 2lb 15oz carp in all the four days we practiced.

Biggest fish on this day was a 2lb ish common carp.

The Final

Frank drew peg 5 which is the area you wanted to be, so the draw gods were in Franks favour.  We were told that pegs 2 to 9 is where you ideally wanted to be.

The atmosphere was electric, Frank had a lot of support.

The match didn't go to plan unfortunately, the wind was bad and the tow of the lake was shocking.  Worms was a key bait, as Frank could fish it over depth and hold back.  However the pole line wasn't strong and the turning point was the method feeder to the island.  This proved to be very important and won Jamie Hughes the match.  Congratulations to Jamie Hughes for winning Fish O Mania for the second time.

Ivy House Lakes

Peg 13
90lb
Won silvers
Third overall
19 fished

Frank Donachie giving me some sound advice... cheers team mate!!

I drew peg 13 on Ivy House Lakes, which I fancied, as the wind had been blowing into it.

Ivy House Lakes has been divided into two.  The lake lake that I drew today will be called Willow and will have 24 legs on it and the match lake will have 20.  That is plan, so andy told me.   The sights are below, and they faired well today, Carp still aren't really having it yet....

Colmic Professional 25 rods

The fishing rod market has become swamped with different brands and models of rods.  I've seen a lot of rods in my time and these Colmic Professional 25 are impressive.  The Colmic Professional 25 is medium to light range pellet waggler rod, equally as good as chubbing down the river!!  The rod has a nice through action, crisp on the strike and don't "crack off" even on 0.12!!

Colmic Kerry pole floats

I have been using Colmic Kerry floats for the last few months.  They have served me very well as I yet to brake one, and I am aggressive with all my gear!!   The Colmic Kerry has a glass stem with gives it strength and stability which is essential in mordern day margin fishing for carp on commercial fisheries.  The other key features is the finish on the float, as it is hard, no need to put "hard as nails" onto your floats.  I know, as I've used 0.20 Colmic F1 Spider Line.  This has cut slightly into the float, but caught over 200lb of fish and didn't let on water.  They have a strong eye and thin bristle.  Also the range is good on Colmic Kerry floats as they come in 0.1 0.2, 0.3, and 0.5.

I would strongly recommend you looking at these floats.
