Winter match fishing is always about been a little lucky with the draw bag, as the fish do shoal up more in cold weather and therefore you could be sat on a "shed full" or "bung hole". However, the beauty of Manor Farm Leisure is that Dave will spread you around the lakes and where possible peg the pegs have been producing, so hopefully you will be in for a few bites wherever you draw.

I drew peg 9 Middle Pool, which is an alright area, as your almost in the  middle if the lake and it fished better down this end of the lake. But fish do have fins and do swim, therefore the early pegs and late pegs could be a lot better, which is the norm, as the top end of Middle Pool is deeper.

I had an enjoyable few hours, caught 5 on the bomb and bread and had 12 fish on the pole. The last couple of hours was really tough. After 1.30pm i should of gone to the pub, as i didn't catch, which did cost me a frame place, so was pleased to win the lake, but disappointed not to make a frame place.

Ash Pool fished well, with the overall top 5 coming from the lake. Neil Mckinnon won the match with 83lb, he also won yesterday on Peg 18 Ash Pool with 100lb!

After drawing peg 5 on middle pool, I was pretty happy as this is normally a good area. Wind was hard in my face, which is going to make things a little more challenging. To cut a long story, I struggled to catch, and i was disappointed with 27lb, which consistented of 7 skimmers (caught on popped up bread), 4 F1's and 2 carp

The British weather been it's normal safe, high winds and loads of rain the last few days.... will it ever let up?  I draw peg 11 which was a decent draw normally, as the fish can sit in the centre of the lake. However, the wind was really strong and a little chilly, so was concerned the fish may sit in the flat water where it would be a lot warmer for them. 

For me, I feel the pole is one of the most consistent ways of catching on Boundary Pool this time of year. I always start on the lead to see if I can mug one of those lucky big ghost carp.  However, that didn't happen today. I had nice day on the pole and pellet, and caught skimmers, F1's and 3 carp (1 was a 8lb ghost carp).  

I fished long line (3 foot), 0.8 gram float. This did miss a few bites, but at least I would get the presentation, as you won't get bites if you float keeps getting jerked around.   I had a 0.4 gram float with a "normal" set up, which was better when the wind dropped.

Looking met office, looks like we are going to have another stormy week, with high winds and lots of rain. Not good!!

I was pleased to draw peg 27, as this is a very good area, also the wind is off my back so I was able to present long pole and pellet. Whereas, the pegs opposite had wind howling in their faces.

Like Neil McKinnon, my mine focus my going to be long pole at 14.5 meters, with hard pellets.

18 Drennan Carp match

I had a nice day catching F1 carp from 1lb to 3lb and had a few carp to 10lb. Too be honest, the carp messed up the F1 fishing as I had a steady run of F1's and then had periods of no bites and then would have 2 or 3 carp with 20 minutes. Whereas as the F1's came frequatly, every few minutes, and I thought and Neil a had beat me, as 2pm to 2.45pm I caught nothing, lost 3 fish in that period.

All the weights came off our bank. The other section was won with a high 40lb.

A beautiful day

I felt that Peg 31 on Boundary Pool would be the wrong end of the lake, as last week it was tough. On arrival to my peg, it was flat calm and tiny fish were topping (little roach). To my left had odd fish rolling and crashing around pegs 38.

My main focus was to fish pole long, feeding 4mm and 2mm coarse pellets and fish either 4mm exanders or hard pellet as hook baits.

I started on the pellet feeder and yellow meat. Which resulted nothing, no liners. So I went on the pole after 20 mins and caught 2 small skimmers and a roach, which was about a pound in total weight.
I had my first F1 after 1 hour 20 mins. Then struggled for another 40 mins, before having a steady 3 hours. I caught around 25 F1's, a few skimmers, a roach and a tench.

Colmic Edy floats, I add some nail varnish to just to add a little strength, the float bodies are hard without it.  A bottle of nail varnish should do 1000's of floats.

This weeks fishing matches have been very tough at Manor Farm Leisure, as like a lot of venues due to the weather.  Island Pool at Manor Farm Leisure has been very consistent around pegs 27 to 35 for F1 carp and "proper" carp. Not entirely sure why the fish have shoaled up there, but it is deeper and that part of the lake has been sheltered from the wind for the last few weeks.
Also on Island pegs 6 to 14 have been throwing up, but it's been more carp in this area as a whole. Therefore, I would change my approach to single hook baits and very negative fishing i.e. feed nothing and fishing smelly meat or boilie. Whereas pegs 27 to 35 you should be able to catch on the pole with pellets and catch on the method as well.

Boundary Pool at Manor Farm Leisure is normally very good around pegs 35-40 and 8 - 12.  Again pole and pellet is very consistent.

The complex fished very well considering the conditions that has been throw at it. Don't get me wrong, there was areas that were tough, but that's winter fishing, the top 3 all had 70lb plus, sections were won with 40lb plus weights.   Everybody caught, no blanks.

I was gutted with my draw and was very tempted to go home, as I had been on pegs 24, 20, 18 and caught very little and feared the worse. On arrival to my peg I could see no water movement, which is a concern and as always fish were topping around 30's and fish crashing on peg 6 on the point.

I chucked the bread on lead for 10 minutes, never had a bite. Chucked a little pellet feeder with NRG meat. Never had a liner. The Toby Carvery looked good. So 30 minutes had gone, peg 6 and peg 34 had caught, whereas the rest of the lake seemed to be struggling. I went on the pole 16 meters had a skimmer after couple of minutes and then caught steady, but only F1's. But I was chuffed, as the next hour saw me catch more fish that I had in 3 visits to this area.

Peg 34 Island won the lake again, that peg has won the lake the last four matches in a row. Slipper/Red Bull man won the match.  Derek caught all his fish on the pole for a comfortable lake win and a overall match win!

Caught one carp on method feeder, which was a nice Mirror Carp about 6lb.
I had 3 carp for a total of 13lb
10lb of skimmers
18 F1's for just under 40lb.
Nice days fishing, glad I went to my peg and as I was lucky enough to sit on a few fish.
