Manor Farm Leisure - Middle Pool

  • Peg 26
  • 353lb 8oz (venue record)
  • 1st Place

Jason Cooke caught some lumps down the edge!!

I really fancied todays fishing match at Manor Farm Leisure on Middle Pool.  There was fish topping everywhere, overcast, slight ripple and fish blowing!  This was an awesome sign and I started at 14 meters on my Colmic Airon F55 pole on 6mm hard pellet and caught and an F1 first chuck and had a carp go over the rope and some how got the carp back over the rope, fair play my pole is strong to lift a 6lb common carp back over the rope, impressed.  Then foul hooked the next couple of fish and lost them, then went shallow and didn't look back really.  My only mistake was trying to be greedy by fishing down the edge, which resulted in a Tench.

Ridgeway Fishery

  • Peg 9 Green
  • 257lb 8oz
  • 1st place
  • 23 anglers fished the match
" I'll be back" as I said to Sam Nobbs, especially after last weeks disaster at Ridgeway, I was looking forward to putting a lot of my wrongs right today.  I stayed on after last weeks match to sort out all the things I did wrong...

  • Pinging regular.
  • Light floats
  • Heavy line
  • Lift and dropping loads
  •  Feed loads!!!!

Ridgeway can be a little doimanted by end pegs and the gaps, so I hoped for a decent draw, so was reasonably pleased with Green 9.  No gap and in the middle of the lane, but I knew there was a lot of fish in the area, after last week.  Mick Lane was on Blue 18, which was golden peg (worth £150), he was the hot favourite to win, there was also another 2 golden pegs also in, but they were less favourable.

Ridgeway can switch off in the middle of the match, and as a lot of carp lakes it can be case of making the most of this time and therefore I had a couple of positive rigs made up and planned to get these carp out in double quick time.

Fed everything via a catapult...... keep feeding even when playing fish

You do need to pull hard at times, as I was fishing right in the trees.......

I planned to fish 18 metres to island, feeding 6mm coarse pellets and fishing 8mm or 6mm banded pellet on the hook.  I was using my trustee Colmic Airon F55 pole with:
  • 3.5mm Colmic Hollow, with 0.25 Colmic x5000 line and 0.20 Colmic Stream and Drennan Carp Feeder 16
  • 2.8mm Vespe Bi Core, with 0.20 Colmic x5000 line and 0.185 Colmic Stream and Drennan Carp feeder 18
  • Floats were both 0.20gram

Paste at 5 meters with 0.20 straight through with a size 12 Drennan Carp feeder hook, which I never fished in the end.  Also I had a couple of down the edge rigs, a 0.4gram Jon Walker float. A heavy float to give stability once loads of fish are present down the edge (didn't happen).

I fished 18 metres all match and caught steady, caught all carp from 3lb to 6 lb on the positive rig, didn't use anything else.  This may seem heavy, but id sooner get them out on riot gear, rather than loosing hook lengths and rigs.  JUST don't hook the far bank.  This pinging method was highly effective today and felt I did very well from this area.

I was pleased to get into the Final, which is on 12 October.
Ridgeway fished well today, with 3 200lb+ weights and a lot of weights over the ton mark.

Frank won his section on the Blues with 157lb (only a small part of his catch)

Chris Davies had 242lb, so it was close

Top 4

Chris Telling 257lb 8oz (Peg 9 Green)

Chris Davies 242lb 4oz (Peg 2 Whites)

Mick Lane 211lb (Peg 18 Blue)

Manor Farm Leisure - Island

Wish I had a few more of there carp top boost my weight.

I was first in the draw bag, as no one wanted to go, and draw peg 38, which was a little disappointing as the wind wasn't blowing into it. was concerned that I wouldn't catch enough to get into the main frame.

I planned to fish:

  • Long pole.
  • Pellet waggler (using my new Colmic professional 25) and bomb over the top.
  • Margins with groundbait and corn

I chucked the bomb for 10 min's without any  indications, so on the pole, tapping, but it was slow and looking around and  people were catching, after 20 long mins I started to catch. odd carp, but mainly f1's.
As the fishing match progressed all i could catch was f1's, no carp's which was a concern.  I caught a few carp, but I feel the few that were there just seemed to drift away.   I had a lot of quiet spells, which has cost me a massive weight, as they wouldn't stay and therefore chased them out on the waggler.  I did caught a few fish down the edge, tench, skimmer and a common carp, so was unproductive.

It fished really well, considering it was 30.0c fair play and very little wind.  Fordy had 200lb mainly down the edge and another 4 ton weights as well. Also the weights are from all over the lake and not a pocket of fish. I was pleased with my 186lb with conditions as they were. I fished 6mm coarse pellets

A good fishing match at Manor Farm Leisure today, with lots of different methods working....
  1. I caught on the method feeder and pole with pellet up in the water.
  2. Rob McKenzie caught on the baggin waggler
  3. Neil McKinnon caught on the method feeder and down the edge again.
  4. Chris Cameron caught a few on the method feeder, but mainly on the pellet waggler.

Colmic Compact One Box

The Colmic Compact One Box is £435.

The Colmic One Compact is much smaller and lighter than both the One and Airon boxes.

It shares most features from the popular One Box and Airon Box, such as 30mm legs, great stability, durability, sliding footplate.

The Box has:

A really comfortable seat (sit on one and you'll see what I mean)

1 big front draw (29cm x 29cm x H 3.5cm)

1 rig holder compartment 4cm deep

1 rig holder compartment 2cm deep

A small side tray (50cm x 37cm)

2 "Ballin arms"

I drew peg 18, end peg with the wind blowing in that direction, I was pleased with my draw. however after only 1 carp in the first 1 hour things weren't looking good, as I was suffering with missed bites and odd lost foul hooker, but Andy next was having a nightmare, loosing fish and missed bites.
I decided to fish paste, to hopefully get better bites ( a big visual bait and heavy bait), as the fish blowing in peg is a problem and I feed 6mm had pellet, with a 0.6 gram Jon Walker float. I normally like to fish "the wetter the better" paste, but stiffer paste seems to be more positive and overcomes the small fish attacking it.

My match didn't go according to plan,  nothing worked with paste. started new lines, but had the same issue with bites. In reflection I should of fished 8mm hard pellet.... this could be more productive, as the shipping to rebait wasted a lot of time. softer elastic would help land the foul hooker's, but  have to consider other anglers, as you don't want 25 meters of elastic out!!
Andy had lost 30 foul hooked fish next to me and I lost 15 fish and 6 in the last 10 minutes by feeding nothing, yet still foul hooked! I hoped that I would catch well in the last hour, which normally happens at Rolfs Lake, but not today for me.

Andy had 102lb and to my disappointing 54lb. well done Andy, you beat me again!

Paul Jay won the match with 260lb (peg 7).

Manor Farm Leisure - Island Pool

  • Peg 10
  • 86lb
  • Section win
  • 33 fished
With 33 on the lake it is going to be a little tight in places, not been spoilt with room like usual, but your still need 100lb plus to win todays fishing match and 80lbs to win your 6 peg section which is worth £48! Which is worth having.
I drew peg 10 which is a no chuck rule therefore the only item that come out of the bag was my Airon F55 pole.  With the wind off my back, I felt that it was going to be in a very tough area.  I set my stall just to take it steady and try and win my section, as I felt that I wouldn't stand a chance of winning the match, unless something silly happened or I was really lucky?!
Fair play, Neil won it again and caught really well down the edge with groundbait and corn!

My 86lb was around 10th. so fished well in this heat, as most people caught 60lb plus.

Wish I had a few more of these!!

The New Ringers Pellet Pumps are worth looking at..... VERY strong

Manor Farm Leisure - Windmill

  • Peg 13
  • 120lb 2oz

  • 14 fished

Peg 13 on Windmill is a peg that I've drawn a couple of times in the past and never done well off it. Therefore I was eager to do well, however with Chris Cameron on peg 11 and Neil Mckinnon on peg 15 I was in very good company.
With the British weather exactly been really nice, hot, there it would be a case I fishing short, shallow and down the edge. I do have island, but it is a whopping 21 meters to it, therefore glad I had a tin of monster and my shreddies.

|I had an enjoyable day, catching mainly f1's to island, but the last hour was very difficult and Neil's swim came alive and fair play he really did bag in the last hour!!
the lake fished ok considering the conditions, most people had 40lb plus, which is a fair few bites....

Rolfs Lake

  • Peg 14
  • 173lb
  • 2nd
  • 13 fished
  • 61lb skimmers and 112lb of carp (14 carp in total)
With flat calm conditions again, this was going to be a difficult fishing match. This was my 4th visit, and the conditions were the same each time.  Nice weather, but not nice for fishing....
Drawing peg 14 wasn't the best of draws, so was a little disappointed, as i wanted to be in the little lake,  as this seems to be the most consistent area at the moment. However, I had some room, which always is going to work in your favour, just like end pegs as you have more room to draw the fish from.
I was hoping to catch a few early carp on paste, then fish pea sizes of paste for bream when these slow down, which gives you the best of both worlds, as you can skimmers around 2lb - 3lb mark and hopefully the odd carp chucked in.
I did have a good spell with 4 decent carp in as many drops, so 38lb in 10 minutes, this was good, but the next 40 minutes saw me hook 6 carp and loose all 6! Even started a new line in hope to get better bites, which didn't work.   The issue with Rolf's is that it is silty and therefore when you have these feeding beasts in your swim, they will churn up the bottom, which does sometimes result in the worse liners ever! No proper bites.
I would suggest to keep pluming up and be geared up to move swims, as you can get sucked into staying on an unproductive line, hooking carp up the ass isn't the way forward.
I had a enjoyable but very frustrating match, i was lucky that i had hooked 6 carp and landed 4 in last 15 mins, which just beat Paul Jay.

Fish trying to get under the platforms can be an nightmare when playing them, I find it's best to stand up as you normally scares them away.......

My biggest fish of the night, 12lb 4oz common carp.

Mark Newbold

61lb of silvers, still need another 49lb to reach a ton, so way off my target.

Paul Jay with 30lb of silvers to go with his 139lb of carp

Top 3

Mark Newbold 193lb (Peg 9)
Myself 173lb  (Peg 14)
Paul Jay 169lb (Peg 30)
