Day 3
  • Peg 22 Windmill
  • 50lb 10oz
  • 1st in section

Peg 22 on Windmill wouldn't be my first choice of peg in the section. an amazing winter peg especially when you have it to yourself. but with 20 anglers on the lake, we aren't spoilt for room like we normally are!
Peg 22 windmill is 10 foot deep at 13 meters, and this can be diffikcult to find where the fish are feeding, as they have more scope to  i was going to fish pellet and them pellet wrti worm. as the lake has a large head of skimmers and as MARK MALIN said 40lb would be a good weight. therefore catch everything that swims.  So took his advice.  It paid off.....
Mark Malin, on Ash Pool, with 19lb carp and a clean sheet so far, 3 points.

Day 1

  • Peg 7 Island
  • 80lb 4oz
  • 5th in my section (10 in a section)
The section fished really well and was gutted that the last hour and fifteen minutes saw me put 2 F1's in the net and my section slipped away from me.  Don't like blaming pegs or conditions, but the wind turned and I should of fished longer, either on the method feeder to island or fish the bomb past my feed...... I thought the long pole and worm would switch on, and resulted in 3 foul hooked carp and lost all three of them.  Bad descision making, which will cost me in this years festival.

Kennet and Avon Canal - Spring League round 2

  • D11 Roadside
  • 7oz (9 fish)
  • 5 points out of 15, 10th, not good

The Kennet and Avon canal at Marlborough always seems to be a bit of a funny venue this time of year, as the roach don’t tend to feed and therefore your target quarry is BIG perch and skimmers (around 4oz-6oz and the odd bigger one).

I drew “Road Side” which was very good in areas two weeks ago, and I hoped that it would fish again?  I drew D11 which was the right end of the section, shame I wasn’t a bit further up as there was more fish caught there two weeks ago, but can’t have it all?  Normally these perch either feed early or late, but with several going through early, I was concerned this would be a difficult day, no fish topping, with bright sun, clear water and no feature for me for the fish to hide under............... this was going to be tough.

Sure enough the fishing match was very tough, and I had one bite over the chop worm line, which was a 4lb pike (they don’t count).   Rotated lines, but caught nothing, with no bites I had nothing to work off.  Unfortunately I didn’t catch a perch and therefore weighed a disappointing 7oz.  Basically if you didn’t catch a perch, you were in trouble as no small fish were there to be caught.......  3 canal matches and no perch!  Also our team struggled too!!  All in all, a bad day.
