Solhampton Fishery - Dragon and Buzzard

  • Peg 26 Dragon Fly
  • 50lb
  • no good
  • 24 fished

The Solhampton Kingfisher Qualifier was a sell out today, so 12 anglers were on Dragon and Buzzard. I was lucky enough to draw the "cluster bowl", but Carl Jones advised me that it hadn't be fishing well and also we had two anglers in each bowl, whereas normally there is only one, so this will make it a little tougher.

On arrival to my peg, there was little activity, but while kiting up, there were small groups of fish crushing around! This was much more positive, but i think there fish are thinking about spawning.
My fishing match started reasonably well as i had few good fish down the edge on pellet, but after a couple of hours things slowed right up and the rest of the 4 hours of the match was difficult, caught a few fish late. So my 50lb was well off the pace as the lake was won with 89lb 11oz on peg 4 by S. Burrus and 78lb opposite him for second on the lake.

Pewsey - Kennet and Avon Canal

  • Peg 17
  • 3lb 7oz 8
  • 4th overall
  • Won section by default.
  • 21 anglers fished.

After a disappointing Fish O Mania yesterday, I was keen on getting some bites and normally on the Kennet and Avon canal you’re almost guaranteed some bites! However, this is a strange time of year as everything is on turn and the canal can fish funny.

Today’s fishing match was at the Wharf and Milk House and I drew peg 17, at the Wharf, which was on the boats, which is a fairish section, but had 4 end pegs to compete with, so had a bit of a challenge on my hands, also had James Carty next to me, who is on fire at the moment.
I had a nice days fishing, but the last two hours was mega tough and couldn't put any fish together and spent too my time cutting up lob worms in hope of catching some perch, which didn't happen! No one in my 11 peg section caught anything on chop!

That’s two weeks without a big billy, whats going on?

I caught all roach, around 90 fish.  I had an enjoyable day and looking forward to next week’s spring league on the Kennet and Avon canal.

The top 8 anglers that had 3lb plus, very close fishing match.

My team mate framing again on the canal, Bubbles.

Boldings - Fish O Mania

  • Peg 2 Scyamore
  • 24lb 11oz
  • No good

With only one Fish O Mania ticket my chances are slim to get back into the final again. I didn't have much luck with the allocation of tickets this year.

On arrival to my peg I feared my chances were even slimmer as we, peg 2, 4 and 50 would be all sharing our 16 meter line and we could touch poles also!
I had a little room down the edges, but with no activity down the sides, and with added pressure from peg 4 and 50  I knew I would be up against it, even though I hadn't even seen the venue before.

I caught a couple of F1's at 4 meters quickly, but this faded away. So had a quick look down edge which resulted in a couple of F1's around the pound mark on maggots.  Darren Cox on peg 6 had caught a couple of carp, including a big Ghost Carp on the bomb. But I wasn’t worried at this stage as we had plenty of time left, or what Steve Long says “early days kid” and the carp always turn on in the last hour!?

Our pegs 2, 4 and 50 got worse as the match went on and the fish were more difficult to catch.  I was a little disappointed with 24lb, but hey that's fishing I suppose?  This included a 6lb carp, 2 beautiful Barbel and around 15 F1's.

I will be going to Boldings again, a nice venue and look forward to fishing it when it's warmer. It seems like we are having the longest winter ever!

Well done to Darren Cox for winning the match and good luck to him in the final.

My target so far:

  • Team was 3rd on the Angling Trust Winter semi final, which is good result as we are through to the final, but would have been nice to win it.
  • Rolfs Festival was a bit of of blow out.
  • Todays match, Fish O, was a mega blow out.
