Middle Lake, where the big fish live along with lots of bream and tench.
Match Lake
A video of the lake lake
A little disappointed to draw peg 10, as it is a bit too far down and going
into the deeper water. However do have some move to my right and therefore
hopefully catch down the edge and catch on the method feeder at 4 meters. My
good friend Jon Walker had drawn peg 3 and peg 2 wasn't drawn, so hopefully he
will have a great days fishing......
I started at 4 meters on pellet to catch three rudd in as many chucks and
4th cast caught a carp that was smaller than the rudd. So got the method rod
out and placed it at 4 meters and it sat there...... After 4 quick casts I
finally caught a carp about 8oz. This wasn't looking good and looking around
the lake I was getting "wasted" and I do mean "WASTED".
Dell next to me was baggin. So I had a few fish down the edge after 30 mins, so
decided to go down there and sacked for hour and half. It was hectic fishing
and was catching well, but went iffy and I struggled to catch out. But the last
hour I got back to catching well again. Was surprised to weigh in 207lb and my
mate Jon weighed in 160lb. What a venue, the fish are very fit and fight hard.
Day two
Peg 31
52lb
3rd in section
11 carp
With Gary Thorpe drawing this peg the day before and weighing in only 7lb I was kind of worried that I was going to be in for a very tough day. Gary Thorpe not only a great angler but also fishes the venue a lot as well. However, hopefully the lake will fish better as it's seen so bait and more rain!
Looking at the peg it wasn't and proved to be like the "krypton factor" in fishing, as I fished 16 meters into the jungle
Me and Trevor Price was 3rd overall which was good. Will do a write up......
Fished the middle lake afterwards and caught a couple of munters......
One day i'll catch a 20lber in this country..........

Well done to Jon Walker and Andy Gregory for winning
Was very pleased to draw peg 8, however as always the pressure is on as everyone expects you to win off this peg. This is my chance to try and do my 400lb in five hours, but this could be a difficult day as we have had so much rain over the last few days. Also the weather has been unsettled and therefore these big fish can switch off, as any sudden pressure change could switch the carp off. So bearing this in mind I will feed casters, with tiny amount of corn (1 tin limit) and feed pellets in the last hour when they switch on.......... also fed pellets at 6 meters in open water from the start.
Feeding casters will help me catch chub, as peg 8 has a good head of chub infront of it and also will catch some bream. Phil Powell, venue expert, advised me that there are good head of silvers and possible to do 40lb of them off the peg and maybe even more. The big bream shoal tend to be in the big lake at Rolf's lake, so doing a big bag of silvers is unlikely.
I had a great day's fishing caught Carp up to 17lb, Chub up to 4lb and a couple of Bream up to 3lb. I fished long all match, 14.5 meters. I used 0.2 Colmic Carp 1 float straight through to 0.20mm Colmic Stream 16 Drennan Carp Feeder all match to Double 14 solid Vespe Elastic. I looked around the lake and saw most people were stuggling a little and also bringing fish over my 6 meter line without spooking anything I decided to stay long and picked off fish most of the match.
Not all the carp are massive..... honest
The fish do fight hard, so ensure your gear is up to it

Carp, tench and skimmers caught on pole and pellet.
.
Rolfs lake was covered in carp and swimming around in big groups and with very
little ripple on the lake, this could prove to be a hard match. So will plan to
catch hopefully a early carp or two and then target skimmers for the middle of
the match and if catch them well will try and do the magic ton! The bream are
on average 2lb 8oz and there are a few biggers ones(4 lbers). Also be aware
that the fish are weighing in light as they have just spawned. So i'm looking
for 35 to 40 bream to do the magic ton. Also I don't want to get small fish
fever, as the end of the day this is a carp lake and can be a baggin lake with
300lb weights to win!
So started on pellets and went straight out to the 13 meters with only a
toss pot of 4mm pellet in hope of a very early carp, after a couple of minutes
I had a bream and then a foul hooked 12lb 12oz common carp that gave me one
hell of a fight. After an hour I had 7 bream and 1 carp and looking around the
lake people were struggling. Therefore decided to start feeding my other lines,
as primarily I wanted to focus all my strengths on one line. So fed a chop worm
line, with chopped corn, a few casters and 4mm pellet that have soaked up all
the worm juice and therefore mounds into a bit of a ball which sinks much
faster. I've have tried it with groundbait, but get millions of roach and small
skimmers in the past. I think this is best, but open to suggestions and will
keep trying new things to see if I can come up with something that could be
more effective. But the biggest issue is that carp came into the peg, which
isn't a bad thing when they are 16lb and 15lb, but they do bully the bream out
of the way. It was a strange and frustrating night, as some of the bites were
the smallest of indications, which I think were due to the bright sunshine and
still conditions.
I was pleased to beat my 75lb of skimmers by 2lb. But do feel that there is
100lb plus shoal of bream waiting for someone and also a very good chance of
doing 400lb of carp, which I would love to do, as I haven't quite got there
yet. Also in the winter I know my team mate Steve Walters and Phil Powell
(dawg) do good weights of roach! So this year at Rolfs I would like to do 100lb
of bream, 400lb of Carp and 40lb of roach in the winter.
