Alvechurch

Peg 13
113lb
2nd overall
14 fished

Drew peg 13 again, this was the first peg I drew on my first visit.  So had a bit of common knowledge on this peg.  The "flower pot" is a bit scary, so was ready with proper gear and lifting fish over.  This worked well, as I lost no fish to the "flower pot".

I caught best on worms over my worm mix.  Worked well.

Tonight's winner Frank Donachie

Alvechurch

Peg 5
89lb
4th overall
15 fished

Peg 5 on Horseshoe Lake wouldn't be my first choice of pegs, so decide to fish pellet feeder to begin with and ping pellets on the pole line and fish down the edge with maggots.   Simple approach.

The match started and chucked a pellet feeder tight to island with fishery pellets (2mm) and lasso 6mm.  Had 5 carp on this in the first hour and rumour has it, that the lake is fishing hard, so reasonably pleased with the start.  Jon Walker was doing the best on peg 11 with long pole.

My second hour on the pole was slow, disppointing, and decided to put worms in, as Scott was catching well on worms next to me on peg 3 and Phil was struggling on peg 7.  So decided to try and catch big skimmers, which was alright.  Edges was devoid, as the edge was only a top kit long, which proved costly as a lot anglers caught well done their edges in last 40 mintues and where I've struggled to catch any carp, only a few skimmers.

Still had a nice days fishing, enjoyed it, and surprised to make the frame..... Just.

Well done to Jon Walker on winning the match with 147lb and 99lb second.

Well done to Jon Walker for winning and the bonus peg.

Alvechurch

Peg 25
123lb
1st place
18 fished.

Good turn out today, it saw 18 anglers turn up for today's open match at Horseshoe Lake.   I really fancied peg 25, as I can fish to the Island with 19 meters of my Colmic Airon F66 pole, and ping pellets down the middle.

With my inexperience of the lake, I quickly realised I got destroyed by the carp on the lake, these fish were pretty big, so had to set up my gear from 2.1 Colmic hollow to 2.5 hollow and 0.18 line to cope with these fish.  As it turned out 14 carp went 90lb, they range from 4lb to 12lb and they fight really hard.   However no problems for the Airon F66 pole and I caught all my fish at 19 meters.   More I use it,  the more I love it.  After catching 19lb carp at Rolfs I know this pole is capable of any normal match conditions.    If you looking for a top end pole that can do anything, then would strongly recommend looking at Colmic Airon F66 pole before parting with your hard earnt cash.

Alvechurch

Peg 7
44lb 10oz
2nd
10 fished

My second visit to Alvechurch fisheries, learnt a few things from last week, as I made quite a few mistakes.

I was simply going to fish maggots and fishery pellet mirco pellets.  I know the edges are important and need to be selective with your maggots as there is a 3 pint limit and I planned to fish maggots everywhere in the peg.

Tackle used

Colmic Airon F66 Pole.

Edge rig
0.2 Colmic Sky float
0135 Colmic Spider Line
0.115 Colmic Stream
18 WN501 hook

Long maggot line
1.8mm Colmic Hollow elastic
4x14 Colmic Po float
0.135 Colmic Spider Line
0.103 Colmic Stream
18 WN501 hook.

Back there again Saturday.
