After speaking to the local heroes, I feared myself up for a tough match.  Whereby it could be a case of been very patient (I learnt to be, especially with my job as a driving instructor).  We thought that 100lb to 120lb would be a good weight and potentially win the match.  Which could be ten bites from these proper units!!

If you don't know Rolfs Lake it has a very large quarry of VERY big carp. The fish range from b to 20lb and average stamp is ten pound.  The fish are very healthy and well looked after by John Bennett.  Your gear does need to be strong, as I have seen and heard lots of top kits go over the years.  So you need to ensure your pole is up to the job, lucky enough my Colmic F44 pole is solid, no need for me to carry two poles.  

The match was very slow and I got neck ache watching John Bennett catch 5 carp in the first forty minutes, whereas I had only 1.   Looking around the lake, it was the fish started to feed and it got better as time went on.  I caught 3 carp and a few skimmers and "dog" roach.  I went down the edge and caught 13 carp and lost 3, which cost me the match.  Lost a 14lber at the net, hook pulled, I think I pulled a bit too hard.  Hooked 3 carp in the last ten mintues, got 2 out and lost that one by been greedy.  I fish corn and micro pellet down the edge.

16lb 10oz was my biggest fish, I thought it was a lot bigger.  Wanna catch a 20lber, which I yet to do.  Hopefully this weekend?!

Colmic Kerry floats passed the Rolfs test.  Very tough, like hand mades. Impressed

Peg 4 Island Pool

Peg 4 Island pool, is a peg that's don't seem to get on with, I've drawn it a few times and never seem to catch enough!! Don't get me wrong it's a great peg on the day.

I left Colmic F44 pole in the bag as its so windy.   Which if you know me, I do suffer from pole fever, so was going out and out attack on the rod.  With a nasty side wind, the pellet wag was going to be difficult to present.

The 4 Colmic rods come out the bag were..

Professional 15 12 foot with 0.18 method line and 0.125 stream hook length. 8 gram waggler.   Size 18 Drennan carp match.

Professional 25, 12 foot with 0.18 Colmic Steel line. 0.145 Colimc Stream hook length.  10 gram waggler. Size 18 Drennan carp match.

New Adventure 60 11ft 0.20 Colmic method line.  Method feeder. 30 gram. 0.185 stream hook length to a 16 Drennan carp feeder hook.

New Adventure 45 11ft 0.20 Colmic Method line.  1/2 oz lead. 2 foot 0.145 stream to a 18 Drennan carp match.

It took ages to get the fish going, despite having a 5lb carp first chuck against the Island.  Then I watched everybody ask catch, especially Phil Hardwick on peg 31 Island, and Terry Winstone on peg 33. 

I had a run of F1's at 12.30 on the lead, pellet feeder and waggler.  I worked hard and rotated methods.  I would get a BIG F1 first chuck on the waggler, but quickly realised that wouldn't get another...   Swapping and rotating methods was the best way of me keep fish coming.

I was pleased to win my section off this peg, as I never seem to do well.  One day I may win off it?!

Caught 90% of my fish on the waggler.  Feed 6mm at 25 meters, a great days fishing, took a while to get them going!!!!  I never had a bite for 40 minutes, started on the method and then went onto the pole, then chucked the waggler dozen times before having my first F1 carp, which was a relief and then I started to bag up, which I have forgotten what that is like!!!

After a very slow start, for everyone, I was chuffed to weigh in 135lb, which is the highest weight for me this year.

I do seem to have a love hate for this peg!!  I never seem to do well off peg 23 Island.  Not sure why?  Today I had another day of wind, but no where near as strong as what I had been faced with at Manor Farm Leisure recently.  I.felt that I.could be on.for some  stockies, twas.they have been following the wind, so I.was lucky in that aspect, however presentation could be a problem!!  

So fed 100 4mm coarse pellets at 7 Meters and started on feeder to let the pole line to settle.  The feeder line resulted in no liners or bites, so the pole will be solid with F1'S???  Err no.   Peg 23 Island Pool has been normal to me, cruel and forty minutes into the fishing match, I am looking bad!

I started a new line at 14 meters, this was going to be a challenge even for my Colmic Airon F44 Pole in this cross wind.   But it was a good more. And caught stockies steady for 1.5 hours.   But was fading.   So chucked a pellet feeder to the point of the island and waited and waited and finally caught a huge 4LB  F1.  I chucked it again.  Nothing.

I felt my match was over, as I couldn't catch up Steve Ford on peg 32 Island Pool, who had been catching steady on pellet waggler and lead.  So my only hope is he comes first or second in the match and I win the section by default?!

Head down and try and catch stockies and some late carp down edge.   No fish down edge, but had a really good run of stockies on 0.8 gram prototype pellet float,  4 mm expander.  Caught F1'S from 6oz to 2lb.  But average 12oz, so good run gave me around 30lb in last 1.5 hours.  But they wouldn't come short??!! 

Important two have two rollers and two buckets of water!!! You don't want your pride and joy falling over!
