Angling Trust Final

Peg 31 Williows
14kg 850 grams
5th in section
Team 4th overall

After a long drive, I finally arrived to Decoy for the very first time, and I was early for once!!!  Good to see some old faces, mainly my old team mates (Drennnan Oxford) and some of the Sensas A4 lads.  Nigel Franks coach arrived with the team mates, and Adi told me draw peg 31 Williows, which was a good area, however soon realised I would be cut off, and Graham West (aka Westy) advised me I was going to get neck ache and sure enough I did.  No chuck rule to.

I was concerned, as I was near on last in the section until the last 40 mintues and the fish turned on, and had 6 fish for about 25lb.  Which was a little relieved, as I was worried I would let the team down.

The rumours after the match, that Drennan Oxford had done really well, a few of us thought they may of won, but turned out to be third overall in the end, which is still a great result.  Devizes Match Group, the team a fish for, was suprisly fourth overall, which was a fantastic result, as many of the lads do not carp fish at all. So fair play to them.

Got the K&A Spring League with the boys in April and May.  Then the national on the Shopshire and Union canal.  So best brush up on my silver skills.

Peg 13 Island
70lb 8oz
Won section
Won lake
3rd overall
27 fished

Today I drew peg 13 Island Pool, which is a great draw, however the wind is going to make it very difficult, with winds up to 40mph in the face, is going to be difficult casting 45 to 50 yard chuck.  So it was going to a Colmic Next Adventure 90 and a 40 gram pellet feeder.   However, was going to start on straight lead, to ensure I don't spoke any fish as they tend to live here.... however a fruitless 3 casts and 35 mintues gone, I decided to chuck a pellet feeder and foul hooked a carp in about three seconds of casting.... unreal.

It was a tough match and had to wait ages for bites.  Had 15 fish for 70lb.  Good stamp.

Peg 27 Middle Pool.... Again
72lb
5th
10 fished

Went to Manor Farm Leisure today and drew peg 27 Middle Pool again..... third Wednesday on the bounce.  Unfortunately it wasn't third time lucky.

Started up popped up bread at 20 meters, which resulted in no bites or liners.... Chucked three different spots.  So decided to go on the pole and caught really well on the pole at 14.5meters in the wind, unreal.... started to fade so went on another line and had 3 F1's and for some reason at 1.15pm  I struggled to catch, only managed 7 skimmers, 4 small F1s and a carp for reminder of the match... The wind stop and my fish stopped.....  Couldn't catch on anything.

I was really surprised to weigh in 70lb, especially as I caught for a short period.   These F1's at Manor Farm Leisure are beginning to average 3lb a piece.  I can see a massive weight done this year.  I reckon the venue record will go this year.

Well done to Tony and Barry... close battle.  Fished really well, see weights below.  10 fished.

So my bad run continues.

Peg 11 Boundary
31lb
Last

22 fished

Drew an alright area, so was pleased.   Boundary Pool tends to be the fairest lake in my opinion.  However, after a hour into the match I had one roach, was very concerned, Neil McKinnon was catching skimmers and odd F1's and Barry Duggan was doing well short.  Wasnt panicking as I know it doesn't take long to do a weight, especially as these F1's are averaging 3lb.

Started to ping the pole line hoping for something to happen.... caught two F1's and things weren't improving....  The lead lines were dead, which was unreal.  No bites on pop ups or bread.  At 1pm I had a run of fish to 2.15 pm on the pole at 14.5 meters,  nothing crazy I had 7 F1's.  I was now praying that they would stay, but they didn't and the last hour was going to come good?  Well it didn't, only had 2 F1's..... disappointing.  Came plum last. 😣.  The is the worse run of fishing I've had in years.... 2017 ain't been good.

I do feel a bit gutted, as I had a real chance of winning the league today. Maybe pushed the peg too hard, but half the match had gone and I had 2 F1's and a roach.  But the plus factor is Frank and Gary Donachie become the joint winners of the league with 17 points.

Joint third was Steve Partingon, Glen Picton, Ian McCullach and Neil McKinnion. With 18 points.

Always next year

Well done to the Donachies on winning the league

Peg 27
90lb
1st place
7 fished

I done a Stopwatch feature today with Match Fishing, and was relived to draw peg 27 Middle pool as the fish have been there for ages, loads of F1 carp.  So I've drawn bag on.

I caught a few bread fish on the lead, which is a good sign, and went on the pole and it was solid.  I was pleased to win the match, even if it was only 7 pegs.  I will post on my blog when the feature comes out, which is about 4 weeks, it's out in Aprils edition.

Ivy house lakes

Peg 9
DNW
15 fished

Went to Ivy House Lakes today and fished the new Kingfisher lake.  Andy and Karen have done a fantastic job.  The canal is 5 foot deep on average and 14 meters wide.  The carp and averaging about 4 to the pound, with a few bigger ones and some skimmers.

The first 5 pegs was the favourable area, as it had more colour and they were fish topping throughout the day.  As any venue this time of year you need a little bit of luck and unfortunately my luck wasn't in........ drew peg 9 and had my first blank of the year, gave up after 2 hours.  My best mate Frank Donachie caught one carp on peg 10 and Allan Oram also caught one carp on peg 8.

So had a go on Willow for couple of hours for some monster carp and never had a bite.... lots of roach topping, but only fished pellets for carp.  I hope my luck changes soon as 2017 has been awful fishing for me so far!!

Peg 15 Ash
DNW (had 14lb ish)
22 Anglers fished

Manor Farn Lesiure attendances are improving, it it saw 22 anglers fish today's match.  So Dave (owner) spread us across three lakes, which gave us plenty of room.

I drew peg 15 Ash Pool, and it was  all over at draw bag unfortunately.  Out of 22 pegs, this one and peg 12 Ash would be the only two pegs I wouldn't want, and the other 20 you stood a chance of winning your section or framing... don't get me wrong sometimes these pegs throw up, but normally the fish are the other side of the rope.  It's like a brick wall at times....

I tried to catch F1's or carp, as these fish are your target species, and i was never going to do over 50lb of skimners.  I ain't good enough and they weren't big enough!!  Not one to blame pegs, gave it a proper go, wasn't meant to be.

Well done to Liam Dennick who won the lake.

Liam won the lake with 54lb

Lower Park Fishery

Peg 12 Willow
13lb
won section/lake
28 anglers fished

Kevin Jury run a match for Charity today, at Lower Park Fishery, for cancer.  Kevin done a fantastic job and raised £950, so great effort!!

We  (frank, liam and myself) all drew end pegs, lol, which was a good thing?!  Mark Malin told me that it would be all about fishing pellets and maggots for F1's and odd carp, and chasing them around by starting new lines and should be a good match, especially if you draw on a few.

Speaking to a few friendly anglers on the day i was told that it would be fishing for mainly F1's and may catch some fish on popped up bread.  Anyway having a good chat with Ken, he seemed to be a little hopeful we would catch a few and the target weight was 30lb as it was always going to be mega tough with the over night frost and bright sun.

The match

It started really slow and never had a bite on popped up bread, so went on the pole and was concerned as no one was catching... on the phone and Liam was sacking (standard these days) and Frank had a couple of small fish and then my float disappeared and I had a small F1 in the net, must come to Franks voice.....then I  had a little fury, but it went died and I couldn't catch for whatever reason, tried everything. Ken caught well on the waggler late, and if it would of been another 15 mintues of the match he would of beat me.

What a lovely complex Lower Park Fishery is, never been there below, but will be going back.

Liam Dennick won the match....legend by 40lb!!!  See all weights below

Manor Farm Leisure

Peg 27 Middle Pool
111lb 12oz
1st place
10 fished the match

Finally drew a right flyer.   So fancied it for a few.  It was a simple match, bomb and bread and pellets long on the pole.

Started on the bread, three popped up discs at 4 inches to a 0.152 Spider Line to a 14 QM1. The tip dropped back, a slight twitch on the reel to ensure it wasn't a line bite and no tension, so a gentle strike and clipped up and 8lber in net.  So chucked it in same place, and my rod almost got dragged in and another 7lber in net and chucked it again and had an F1.  So a lot of fish in area, so started to ping 4mm pellets on pole line.  Chucked lead and bread for 10 mintues, no bites.  So un clipped and chucked again a bit further, another ten mintues, no bites.  So chucked it to my right, 5 mintues and no bites.  Bugger.  So onto the pole and it was solid.  Caught F1's really well.

Come the weigh in, I was surprised to weigh in 111lb, after admitting to 80lb.  It really doesn't take long to do a weight.   These F1's are chunky weight builders.

Loving my new Colmic Airon F66 Pole.

Caught roughly 30 F1's

Caught 5 carp and a few huge F1's
